This plan reflects Council’s commitment to the Community Development Program (CDP) as a provider in the North West Alice Region NT (Region 25). Our CDP program has had an impact on the lives of thousands of Indigenous Australians living in our remote communities. We have listened to our communities when they expressed their strong desires for youth to remain on country, to be employed on country and to continue the storylines of elders and to ensure our programs continue the preservation of aboriginal culture.
Council aims to achieve the above by way enriched service delivery for example in the YSR space where we are working towards the creation of a learning hub for youth where CDP, YSR and the schools to participate in structured programs held at a centre which includes:
- VET or TAFE training focused on youth who want to learn hands on stuff such as tool handling, mechanical skills, engineering, solar or renewable energy, etc.
- Food cooking classes or food handling
- Art
- Sports excellence involving AFL NT
- Understanding finances
- Research particularly on local vegetation, animals and the environment which is a segue into CLC Rangers
The intent of the Learning Hub is to give youth life skills, develop their skills or identify areas of interest for future employment or training.
Our key themes for the 2023/2024 Regional Plan are: I Have Connection to Community, Employment and Economic Development, Our Environment Matters, and Our Role as Council is Clear.
