Atitjere was lucky enough to have theirs delivered on Monday 7 November, and was able to put the filters and water jugs into service immediately. The filters were easy to install onto the existing kitchen tap and was done in a matter of minutes. After a 10 minute flush of the new filter cartridge they were off with Support Officer Shannon White first in the queue to try it out.
Warren Kenney, Regional Manager, Council Services Delivery – East, asked Grant Ferguson, the Essential Services Officer (ESO) who works for Akron, to do a free chlorine read on the filtered water. The test came out with a perfect zero, indicating the filter does remove all chlorine from the water.
“Based on that we are pretty confident that the filter cartridges are doing their job,” said Warren.
The chest freezers will ensure that they have an adequate supply of frozen electrolyte pops for the crew’s breaks when they have been working in the heat.
“This is especially important as our weather has started to warm up and the need to keep hydrated is increased. The Atitjere Municipal team take WHS seriously and gave a thumbs up to the new filter and water jugs,” said Warren Kenney.
