The Laramba Local Authority (LA) proposed to plant some indigenous trees along the main road into the community, from the Childcare to the turn off at the school. The approved sacred site clearance is for trees on both sides of the road however the other side next to the oval has a power line, so there are plans to get shade trees that will not grow tall so as not to disturb the overhead line.

A contractor planted 17 trees with tree guards a few weeks ago and the Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) Community Development Program (CDP) was tasked with the tree maintenance and management.  On 31 August Francis Madonko, Program Manager CDP Activities, visited Laramba to see how best they could manage the tree maintenance.

“I realised the contractor didn’t put basins around the trees, which is very important to allow water to collect so it can sink deep to encourage good root development and give the tree good anchoring,” he said.

Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) recently competed at the AAI Central Australia Softball Tournament held in Tennant Creek. CDRC were represented by 30 female players from Anmatjere, Laramba and Engawala.

The three teams were supported by CDRC Youth and Community Safety Patrol Team Leaders, who all met in Ti Tree on Friday. The teams had a quick lunch together then drove three hours up the Stuart Highway to Tennant Creek.

Good luck to the 30 softball players from Engawala, Laramba and Ti Tree who are travelling to Tennant Creek this week to represent Central Desert Regional Council at the AAI Central Australia Softball Tournament. Players will hit the field on Friday night and all day Saturday. Check our Facebook or website for the results next week!

On Thursday 29 July over 40 players from Atitjere, Engawala, Laramba, Pmara Jutunta and Nturiya participated in the first Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) Intercommunity Sporting Tournament since COVID-19 disrupted the Youth Sport and Recreation (YSR) programs. The round robin softball tournament was held at Pmara Jutunta, with Laramba and Engawala making the final. The tournament was delayed a month after heavy rainfall stalled proceedings at the latest attempt.

After numerous games throughout the day, Laramba and Engawala played in a classic final, with Laramba winning 7-6.

A large crowd supported the players, and everyone made plenty of noise as the ball sailed across the field on several occasions.

Rates Declaration for 2021-22 is available on our website at  Rates Declaration 2021-22  or at our Council Offices in community as well as at 1 Bagot Street, Alice Springs.

As part of its reengagement strategy with clients, Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) Community Development Program (CDP) was on the road to deliver its Careers Expo. Over 13 and 14 July, three teams crisscrossed the region with a single objective: to bring together job seekers and employers in the region.

The themes of this year’s event were:

• Continuing conversations with job seekers on the latest changes to mutual obligations by Government.
• Surveying job seekers to capture their input on CDP servicing.
• Providing a pop-up jobs expo space for employers in the region to exhibit jobs and services to clients.

The Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) People and Culture Recruitment Team have been busy over April and May running recruitment training in communities. This was the first time the team had been to most communities so it was a great opportunity for them to get to know more of the staff.

The training was aligned to the Recruitment and Selection Standard Operating Procedure with an aim to increase the accuracy and compliance of recruitment paperwork received as well as compliance to the procedure, policy and Local Government Act requirements.

In June 2021, the Central Desert Regional Council (CDRC) Community Development Program (CDP) collaborated with DriveSafe to deliver remote licencing to jobseekers and residents in Yuelamu, Yuendumu, Laramba, Willowra and Anmatjere. Participants across these communities accessed theory classes and road safety education lessons towards their Learner and Provisional licences, and practical driving assessments.

A total of 137 people attended the training. 73 people gained their Learner licences, 12 obtained Provisional licences and 5 participants obtained full licences.
