The Northern Territory Government is undertaking a review into local governance arrangements in the NT. The NT Government has indicated its committment to delivering a stronger local voice and improved services in regional and remote areas of the Northern Territory. The review local governance in regional and remote areas aims to :
- make sure people living in regional and remote areas have a strong voice in local government
- use local knowledge, authority and responsibility
- keep strong accountability and good service standards.
It is important that there is a strong local voice and all Territorians living in regional and remote communities and outstations can have their say on creating stronger regional local government councils.
Community consultation's have commenced across the Territory, with Public Consultations taking place in Central Desert Shire from 16th April 2013.
