On 24 November the Regional Waste Coordinator, Michael Davis, and Yuendumu Field Officer, Kasman Spencer, gave a presentation at the International Conference on Asbestos Awareness and Management in Brisbane. Michael and Kasman talked about our progress so far at our Yuendumu Asbestos Program where we have identified old landfill areas around the community where asbestos is part-buried. We are now fencing these areas so the community is protected. In the photo, Kasman and Geoffrey Wilson are installing asbestos signs at the old dump near the existing landfill, with Michael having a look. Council has been told that we are currently at the forefront of council-led responses to asbestos management in regional Australia. We are proud to be leading the way in this important work to keep communities safe.
